Add Protein to Your Day with this Easy Recipe

//Add Protein to Your Day with this Easy Recipe

If you are a cereal, toast, or oatmeal lover, do you ever find that an hour to two after you eat you are ravenous for more? Maybe you feel guilty that you are hungry so soon after just eating!

Well, I have good news for you.  With this simple fix you can sail through your morning more productive and focused, not to mention less ravenous.

Starting your day off with only simple carbohydrates is like waking up a “sleeping giant.”  And from every fairy tale I’ve ever seen, that doesn’t work out so well.

Your body has been in a state of “fasting” all night.  So when your first meal of the day is primarily simple carbohydrates, these sugars are quickly used up and your body (and brain) are now screaming for MORE!

I’m not one of those who is staunchly against carbohydrates.  They are necessary for brain function and energy.  So breathe deep and know that I’m not telling you to cut out all cereal, toast, and oatmeal!

However, if you want to sail through the day with more energy, less cravings, and higher fat-burn, start your day off right by adding protein to your first meal.   This easy fix will eliminate the insatiable hunger that follows waking the sleeping beast with simple sugars!

“Proatmeal” is one of my favorite ways to add protein to my breakfast.  “Proatmeal” equals Oatmeal + Protein!   It also makes a great mid-morning snack or can even serve as a wholesome dinner for those nights you are in hurry and don’t feel in the mood to cook an elaborate meal.

  • ½ cup whole oats
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 Tbsp. protein powder
  • ½ cup fresh or frozen berries
  • 1 Tbsp. chopped almonds or walnuts
  • 1 Tbsp. honey or maple syrup (or stevia to taste)
  • 2-3 Tbsp. whole, raw, almond, rice, or coconut milk

Combine oatmeal and water in pan. Bring to a boil and cook for about 5 minutes.  Remove from heat and add remaining ingredients.  Stir and place in a bowl to serve.

    • Thank you Diane! Let me know how it tastes if you make it! My absolute favorite protein in it is Shaklee 180 Whey vanilla. It makes it so creamy and delicious!
